Bihar to Add Two New Medical Colleges from January 2026

Bihar will add two new government medical colleges from January, increasing the total number of state-run medical colleges to 15. The new institutions are coming up at Mahua in Vaishali district and Ara in Bhojpur district. Each college will be attached to a 500-bed hospital and will admit 100 MBBS students every year. The facilities are being developed in accordance with National Medical Council (NMC) guidelines and will include major departments such as general medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology, and intensive care.

The colleges will also have necessary academic infrastructure, including hostels for students and residential accommodation for doctors and staff. Diagnostic services, outpatient and inpatient care, and essential medicines will be available once operations begin.

Over the last decade, Bihar has steadily expanded its public medical education capacity, moving from seven government medical colleges to the current count of 13. With the addition of these two new institutions, further expansion is planned, with more medical colleges under construction in several districts.
